The Founder, CEO & CSO

      Dr. Zheng-Yun James Zhan, the founder of Zannan Pharma Ltd., has served as President, CEO and CSO of Zannan since it was founded in 2003.

　   Dr. Zhan received his Ph.D. with Prof. David Lynn at the University of Chicago, where he worked on synthesis of backbone-modified DNA derivatives and template-directed catalysis. He then worked as a postdoctoral fellow with Prof. Peter Dervan at California Institute of Technology and developed new antibiotic agents to inhibit DNA replication by blocking IHF protein binding site of E. coli. After that, Dr. Zhan worked as a research associate on catalysis and click chemistry with Nobel Laureate Prof. Barry Sharpless at the Scripps Research Institute. He then extended his career and worked at Array BioPharma on collaboration projects of Lead Generation & Optimization with Amgen and Neurocrine companies, respectively. Prior to that, he also worked on discovery and process development for three years at Schering-Plough in USA.

     Dr. Zhan has established an excellent R&D team that is consisted of experienced Ph.D. and M.S. scientists in Organic, Medicinal, Catalysis, and Polymer Chemistry to provide high quality services in custom synthesis, contract research, and process development. So far, Dr. Zhan has developed a series of highly active metathesis catalysts and high-strength ROMP polymer materials by ROMP-RIM technology with some highly effective and selective “Zhan (Ru) Catalysts” (e.g., one of the best high-strength and high stiffness poly-DCPD materials), and has over 20 international patents and papers published.
